Somewhere, arch-conservatives like Pete Coors & the Busch family scream and immediately speed-dial their attorneys, spin-meisters and PR flacks. “MAKE IT GO AWAY!” they scream.

Rather misguided friend of mine got heavy into coke years ago, after scoring what should have been career-making acting roles. Wound up doing 18 months in an actual penitentiary - which he said was much calmer & safer than LA County Jail. Which is another story.

But his take on drugs vs. alcohol was that 80% of the guys in the slammer were there because of stupid shit they did while drunk. And that, once they were out (if they ever did get out), they were likely to do more stupid shit because, well, they were drunks, and that’s what drunks do.

Then again, this may have been the desperate justifications of someone who had just taken his career and thrashed it up his nostrils.

Alcohol is a very dangerous, highly-addictive drug. Several other drugs would be much safer choices if not for the insane and corrupt war on people who choose politically incorrect drugs.

re: #2 No Country For Old Haters

Alcohol is a very dangerous, highly-addictive drug. Several other drugs would be much safer choices if not for the insane and corrupt war on people who choose politically incorrect drugs.

One thing I learned that I thought was especially chilling.

We know that a lot about how specific addictive drugs affect the brain. They specifically affect the neuro-chemicals in the reward system of the brain. These are often the same neuro-chemicals involved with fear, sex, eating and other basic survival emotions and behaviors.

The thing is that they tend to affect just one of two of these neuro-chemicals in a big way.

Alcohol, on the other hand, is made of sugar and water. The substances the brain uses for fuel.

What is more difficult to understand (I think) is what various addictive substances to to the mind. I find that scary as shit.

Another thing is that we have decades of medical research and autopsy results to know what alcohol does to the physical body. From brain atrophy to liver disease —it’s not good.
